Wow Ideo fugiet. I feel I've just watched a politician explain why the IRS can do criminal acts yet is fit to handle my healthcare. Doesn't wash out, even with bleach.

The WORD you REFUSE to address is DEVIANT.

No matter how you twist, and play word games or attempt to change the FACTS with wishful thinking, gay sex is deviant sex, just like sex with goats, children, corpse.

And our government wants us to accept/embrace one group of deviants, and punish all others.

Good grief

In response to Holland who appears to be genuinely distressed by his "lack of answers" I feel compelled to point out that his arguments fail on two very basic points and that answers have been provided although he is demonstrably unable to accept them because they violate his closely held personal beliefs.

In a diverse society that can't agree on which god is god and which god's rules really matter, the decisions that delineate moral codes are made according to the benefit or harm the majority of its citizens perceive as resulting from those actions. Easy moral rules involve killing and thievery. Other more difficult rules involve the age of sexual consent and whether or not we are allowed to eat cows, dogs or humans.

Within a society, any individual is free to derive a personal moral code from any text they choose to believe is the divine word of god, but their neighbors are also always free to reject those ideas out of hand in private and in public too so long as their society as a whole allows it. Moral codes shift as societies change especially those kinds of moral values predicated on a sacred rulebook that is no longer believed to be inviolably sacred by a substantial majority of the population. That's a happy fact of life. Otherwise we'd still be offering gifts of wine to Mother Earth and decorating our doorposts with the severed heads of our defeated enemies.

The moral code is shifting in our society today just as it did when slavery was outlawed after thousands of years of moral approval or like it did when women were given the right to own property and vote and educate their daughters. Just like it's shifted too in smaller ways as we move away from burial to cremation, from polygamy to absolute monogamy and back and from thoughtless destruction of the earth's resources to careful custodianship.

The second point of "failure" in Holland's arguments and equally as important is their reliance on the logical fallacy called the slippery slope. A slippery slope argument hypothesizes unrelated and random horrific events will necessarily result from stepping over a single and particular line drawn in the sand. Some examples of slippery slope arguments are:

If we allow women over the age of 18 to marry without consent of their fathers, 5 year old girls will be marrying their daycare bus drivers.

If private citizens are allowed to own guns we'll have to legalize the right to privately own nuclear weapons.

If we allow same sex marriage we'll have to legalize sex abuse of minor children and marriage with pet rabbits.

Slippery slopes have no legitimate place in debates unless the object is to win the debate by terror instead of by superior logic or reason or by a firm bastion of fact. It's usually the tactic of those who lack a firm foothold in either. That isn't to say that slippery slopes can't come from the heart or can't be muttered with the fervor of strongly held belief. They can be and often are. But that doesn't change the fact that slippery slopes represent a concerted effort to derail active opposition by pointing out imaginary demons hovering just over the event horizon in Never Never land and are not legitimate arguments that need to be met with anything more than a slight smile and a dismissive waive of the hand.

Well PaulBear, I guess I'm more fixated on the fact that you cannot/will not answer my question.

If people, who believe they are homosexual, are 'born that way', then so are people who have deviant sex with goats, children and corpse.

Why should our government embrace one form of deviant sex and punish all others?

It's a simple question, yet I get attacked, but never answered.

Hi ElvaB. To answer you question I will tell you I do not believe people are 'born that way'. It doesn't matter if someone wants to have sex with the 'same sex', 'a child', 'a goat' or a corpse'. They were not born that way.

So if I were to start to believe the sexual desire was to have sex with any of the above, then I would know that I have allowed myself to dive into the pit of deviancy.

If I were to act on that 'believed desire', then I would be held accountable by society, unless it's gay sex, and I would be held accountable by God for any of the deviant desires that I acted on.

It amuses me how fixated some Christians are when it comes to one 'sin' while ignoring many other sins enumerated in the Bible.

If you, Holland, had found yourself sexually attracted to your own sex to the degree that you had no interest whatever in the opposite sex, what do you believe you should have done about it? Simply ignored it and married, thereby condemning your spouse to a lifetime of confusion and hurt? Done without sex entirely? Human beings are not made that way.
